v1.8.0 — Combat Overhaul
v1.8.0 is a major combat overhaul release.
This update reworks how combat feels across the game. Ship tier still matters, but fighters, torpedoes, shields, stealth, environment, faction behavior, and NPC interactions all matter much more than before.
Combat Formula Rebalance
The underlying combat formulas have been retuned so consumables and loadout decisions are decisive instead of marginal.
This includes:
- reduced ship base power dominance
- much stronger fighter, torpedo, and shield weighting
- shield-based attrition reduction
- torpedo shield penetration
- fighter superiority shifting win odds before the main combat roll
The result is that stocked ships, better prep, and better tactical choices matter much more.
NPC Encounter Tuning
NPC encounters are less noisy and make more sense by region.
Changes include:
- lower encounter rates overall
- no pirate spawns in Federation space
- stronger patrol presence in Federation regions
- no patrols in pirate or lawless regions
- patrol contraband scans now trigger correctly when the patrol spawns on your move
Visible NPCs in Sectors
NPCs are now visible in sectors instead of feeling purely abstract.
This makes the galaxy feel more alive and sets the stage for richer interactions and tactical decisions.
Environmental Combat Modifiers
Sector/environmental conditions can now affect combat outcomes.
This gives combat more variety and makes location matter more than before.
Stealth and Combat Integration
Stealth is now connected to combat and scanning behavior.
This improves the role of stealth as an actual gameplay system instead of a disconnected stat.
PvP Rewards and Progression
PvP now contributes more meaningfully to progression, including rewards and tracking.
This strengthens the long-term value of combat without changing the game’s non-destructive ship philosophy.
NPC Diplomacy and Interactions
NPCs are no longer just targets or random encounters.
New interaction behavior opens the door for more interesting encounters and a more dynamic galaxy.
NPC Memory and Faction Reputation
NPC behavior now tracks more of what you do.
Faction reputation and NPC memory make the world feel more responsive and less stateless over time.
Overall, v1.8.0 makes combat more tactical, NPCs more believable, and the galaxy feel much more alive.
